Metro Misinformation
Trans identified male, Ugla Stefania Kristjonudottir Jonsdottir, has written an article in the Metro, claiming transgender people can change their sex “legally and physically”.
The article includes other misleading claims, such as trans-inclusive policies in other countries being “hugely successful and positive for everyone”. We know this is not the case, and Murray Blackburn Mackenzie provide several examples of significant problems in section 8 of their election factcheck. In addition, Jonsdottir claims transwomen are more likely to be affected by “gender-based” violence than women, despite the UK being one of the safest countries for trans people to live, with transwomen being almost twice as likely to be the perpetrator of a murder than to be murdered.
Open Letter to the Equality and Human Rights Commission
As we mentioned earlier this month, Sex Matters have organised a brilliant open letter to the EHRC, calling on the organisation to leave the Stonewall Diversity Champions scheme, and for an inquiry into Stonewall and the transgender lobby’s role in public life. You are able to download a copy of the letter and send it to your MP.
