UCU members questionnaire
The University and College Union (UCU) are sending out questionnaires to their members on academic freedom. We have seen from the University of Essex's independent inquiry into the no-platforming of gender critical academics this week some of the many problems with freedom of speech in universities. Women have been no platformed, threatened and silenced for expressing gender critical views.
There appears to be a bias from the UCU with the introduction to the questionnaire calling concerns “overblown rhetoric”
It’s really important that the truth of gender critical women’s experiences in academia is heard.
CEDAW People’s Tribunal action
The Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) is a international human rights treaty. A group called CEDAW People’s tribunal (CPT) has been set up to determine how best to integrate CEDAW into UK legislation. JL has written a detailed background on CPT and it’s problems here. In brief CPT does not appear to define women as adult human female but includes males and has been ignoring many requests by women to clarify this. This group will be responsible for drawing up proposals that could become UK law.
Action
Please share that there is a UCU questionnaire and fill it in if you are a member. Questions are optional if you are concerned about anonymity.
There are details here on how to contact CPT and follow up action if ignored.
