Eroding Professional Boundaries
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent health and social care regulator in England. On 26th February, the organisation dedicated its social media to LGBT History month. Throughout the day, Ray from the CQC’s LGBT Network, posted a number of tweets which many found unprofessional and inappropriate.
This one in particular stands out, and clearly blurs the lines between professional and personal. Why would an organisation whose responsibility is to protect service users, feel the need to partake in this immature and nauseating virtue signalling? Well, they are Stonewall Champions, of course.
Whether or not patients and service users have the legal right to request practitioners who are the same sex is an ongoing concern. Knowing that regulators like the CQC are pandering to gender identity ideology does nothing to alleviate these anxieties.
In fact, as is common with many Stonewall Champions, CQC do not even seem to acknowledge that Sex is a protected characteristic, yet gender, gender identity and gender expression, all get a mention despite not being protected under the EA.
Call to Action
1. Request that they remove their social media posts promoting gender ideology, an unscientific belief system.
2. Let them know your thoughts around the legal right to request a same sex carer.
3. Ask them to amend their list of protected characteristics on their recruitment page, to include “sex” and accurately reflect the Equality Act.
