British Cycling Consultation
British cycling have launched a consultation into their transgender and non-binary participation policy.
The current policy allows males to participate as female if they lower their testosterone below 5 nmol/L for a year before competing. This ignores the complex differences between male and female bodies, creating unfairness and excluding many women and girls from their sports.
This idea of a women being equivalent to a male with less testosterone was echoed by England Rugby who described a female in their latest draft inclusion policy as “a person who does not produce male levels of testosterone at puberty and adolescence”
Women are already losing out on places, medals and opportunities in sports. Contact sports such as Rugby already hold risks for participants and these policies are making it more dangerous. Please make your voice heard in these consultations to protect women’s sport for both fairness and safety.
