Lord Herbert's Times Interview
At the weekend, the government’s new LGBT Envoy, former MP Lord Herbert, gave an interview to the Times.
Within the interview, Lord Herbert, who happens to be the Chair of the Royal College of Policing, praised Stonewall and suggested “it would really help to change the debate in this country if we had more trans people in leading positions in our national life here”. He also insinuated that therapists not affirming somebody’s gender identity is a form of conversion therapy. In reality we know that affirming and transitioning gender non-confirming youth can itself be a form of gay conversion therapy, yet this, nor the alarming rates of children being referred to the gender clinic, were not explored in the interview.
It is important that LGBT Envoys such as Lord Herbert are not captured by ideology but instead stick with objective evidence and material reality. If they cannot do this, the best interests of women, children, and same sex attracted people cannot and will not be protected.
