Women's rights do come up on the doorstep
We have known Labour has a woman problem for a long time now, and the past few days have done nothing to alleviate concerns.
On the Andrew Marr show on Sunday, Keir Starmer stated the phrase “only women have a cervix” is something that “should not be said” and is “not right”. Since then, various Labour representatives have been asked whether this is a transphobic statement, and if so, why?
David Lammy not only described women who do not want to include men in the definition of woman as “dinosaurs” who want to “hoard rights” , but also appeared very agitated when questioned about this by Rachel Burdon on Radio 5. He claimed that women’s rights were not an issue which came up on the doorstep, however it seems he may not have been being honest.
The debate is now out in the open, and the last few days have shown how uninformed the people who really should be seeking to understand the arguments are.
Call to Action
Write to your MP to make sure they know how you feel about women’s rights being dismissed as either hateful or unimportant. Recommend they read “Trans” by Helen Joyce so they can answer questions more effectively than their colleagues have managed so far.
